The 2007 Breeders’ Cup, thoroughbred racing’s premier event held at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, NJ, is celebrating its 24th anniversary. The Historic Inns of Spring Lake, only 11 miles from the races, are a haven of luxury for horseracing fans October 26 & 27 when the richest day in racing comes to Monmouth County. The celebrated Monmouth Park Racetrack opened in 1870 during the era when Spring Lake inns were also being constructed (circa 1870-1888).

This year’s illustrious event consists of 11 horse races on a one-mile dirt oval track awarding $23 million in purses and honors. Hosted by a different racetrack each year, this is the first time the championships have come to Monmouth Park.

The excitement is building around the globe and when the weekend arrives at legendary Monmouth Park, nearby Spring Lake is a sanctuary of relaxing accommodations. New Jersey’s oceanfront community of Spring Lake is rich in history, charm, style and unquestionably a place with heart. Then (1870’s -1880’s), it was the heyday of the rich & famous enjoying summer months of uncompromised luxury.

Spring Lake is midway between Philadelphia and Manhattan (approximately 65 miles). NJ Transit trains stop downtown Spring Lake daily, either a short stroll or drive to each Inn. Horseracing fans can study their racing forms over gourmet breakfast in a grand dining room, unwind on a breezy open-air porch, walk the 2-mile oceanfront boardwalk or bicycle to the center of Spring Lake’s downtown shopping area.

During the Breeders’ Cup week of excitement, the Villa Park House welcomes guests to enjoy the privacy and tranquility of one of America's premiere resorts.
